Northland

Day 1       Auckland to Tutukaka (2.5 hours)
Explore the shops, galleries and Clapham's Clocks collection in Whangarei's Town Basin. Picnic by the beautiful Whangarei Falls. Dive or snorkel at the Poor Knights Islands marine reserve or explore the islands, sea caves, arches, tunnels and unique wildlife by ocean-going jetboat.

Day 2       Tutukaka to Paihia (1 hour)
Visit the Waitangi Treaty Grounds, experience local Maori culture, cruise through the Bay of Islands, fish, kayak. Just a short ferry ride across the harbour is Russell, a lovely and picturesque little town rich in history.

Day 3       Paihia to Doubtless Bay (1.5 hours)
Stop at Kerikeri en route, home to some significant historical sites but also to an art & crafts trail and steamboat cruises. Around the many townships of Doubtless Bay you can enjoy safe, uncrowded beaches. Options include kayaking, swimming with the dolphins, fishing, cruising, diving, golf or simply doing nothing at all!

Day 4       Cape Reinga
A day at leisure, or to visit Cape Reinga at the tip of the North Island. See where the Tasman Sea and Pacific Ocean meet. Drive along 90 Mile Beach and the quicksand stream by coach, surf the sand dunes and dig for shellfish.

Day 5       Doubtless Bay to Omapere (2.5 hours)
Wind and twist your way through native forest and tiny townships. Go horse riding or take a tour by dune buggy. Explore the harbour or make your own bone carving. Venture into the Waipoua Forest at twilight and let your guide show you the oldest and largest known Kauri trees in the world. Listen for the call of the Kiwi and other native birds.

Day 6       Omapere to Auckland (4 hours)
Stop at the Kauri Museum . This acclaimed museum tells the story of the pioneering days through the use of Kauri timber and gum.
